I have so many problems with this video.
Mere moments ago, I referred to my daughter as “Crazytown.” This was due to her worrisome crying and frantic arm waving as I prepared a bottle of mommy milk. “Take it easy, Crazytown!” is what I said. That’s a bona fide quotation from the actual moment.
This led to the Redhead and I having a brief discussion about Crazytown the band, and me Googling this video. My problems aren’t with the actual content of the video (though they should be), but with the presentation of the video itself. In this day and age of copyright infringement and internet legal usage debates, some clown named “Cipryss” decided to put his stamp all over these butterflies. I mean, look at it. Not only does he put some stupid production company logo at the beginning to imply that “Zone Z” somehow made the music video, but he tosses the THX music under it. Good call, Cipryss! If there’s one guy who knows NOTHING about property licensing, it’s George Lucas. To top it off, when the real music video starts to play, it’s clearly ripped from MTV, complete with the classic MTV font on the band name and title CG. Within the first 15 seconds, Cypryss steals the property of Columbia Records (a division of Sony Music Entertainment), Lucasfilm Ltd., and Viacom, passing it off as his own. As of press time, he has done this 6,832,427 times.
It’s only through the sheer inconsequential nature of Crazytown itself that nobody important has ever thought to Google their music, therefore allowing Cypryss to continue plagiarising their work and that of music video director, “Honey.”
Enjoy it while you can, scofflaw. On a side note, now that I’ve seen what Crazytown looks like, I will no longer absentmindedly bop to their music during Mazda commercials. What a bunch of tools.
